I am being driven insane!
Suse 10.1 comes with an older version of Firefox (1.5?)
I would like to upgrade this to Firefox 2.
I have downloaded 2, extracted it, but cannot work out how to install it.
I have read numerous posts on various Linux forums specifically about this process, but NOBODY appears to be able to explain simply how to do this!
Using Windows, it is possible to do this with a series of clicks. Surely to God whoever put together Suse 10.1 didn't make it so complicated to install a programme that users would die of frustration before succeeding!
So, how, without induldging in script, do I install Firefox 2? Can I EASILY overwrite the earlier Firefox application?
Assume NO KNOWLEDGE of anything, if you think you can help.
Is there anybody out there who can give me a simple, step by step application of how I can get this programme installed?
As you can see, I am extremely frustrated.
Go on, make my day! Help!
Thanks.

As 10.2 now comes with FF2 already installed, I would think it should be available through YaST now.
Opening up YaST, going into the software management section, finding Firefox and checking off the update option would probably be the easiest way for you to get it upgraded.
Shadoglare,
Many thanks for your input. Went to Software Management. Seached for Firefox. Found it, but was told that there were no updates for my 1.5.0.3-7 version!
So, what did I do wrong?
Surely life cannot be this difficult!!
reddzz,
I clicked on the link, but haven't a clue what to do with the material there. How am I supposed to incorporate it. What do I click on? Clicking is the full extent of my Linux skills...
You need to run YAST, go to the section labeled Installation Source and add that url as an http installation source. The server name/url would be download.opensuse.org and the directory would be mozilla/SUSE_Linux_10.1. Once thats done, search for Firefox in YAST and version 2.x should be listed as the latest version.
