Installing both the KDE and Gnome desktops for CentOS (Redhat) Install
Greetings:
I would like to install CentOS 6.3 and would like to be able to allow users the ability to either get the Gnome or KDE desktop at login time. During the installation how can I do this? Do I have to download the KDE code and Gnome code at the same time, is there an option during the installation process to get the proper packages/systems installed to do this? Is there a proper procedure to use to get this done? Thanks. |
Hi
If you get the centos 6.3 dvd iso it has both on there http://mirrors.vooservers.com/centos/6.3/isos/i386/ http://mirror.for.me.uk/centos/6.3/isos/x86_64/ |
Spiky, the install allows you to choose which one. I don't believe it allows you to select which one you want when you go to log in as a user which the OP is after. Please correct me if I'm wrong here.

Just make the standard install, it comes with Gnome, IIRC. Once the install is complete use yum to also install KDE. The display manager (most likely GDM in this case) should provide you automatically with an option to choose the DE (sometimes only after you have typed in/chosen a username).
