Installing Backtrack to USB stick

Hello, I am trying to install backtrack 3 to a usb stick which is already bootable and already has grub installed. I copied the boot and BT3 directories from the usb iso from the website onto my drive, and edited my menu.lst so it looks like:
Code:

    color black/blue black/cyan
    timeout 60

    title SystemRescueCD
    kernel /rescuecd initrd=initram.igz video=ofonly vga=0 scandelay=5
    initrd /initram.igz

    title Disk Wipe
    kernel /memdisk
    initrd /dban.img

    title Password Reset
    kernel /memdisk
    initrd /ntpass.img

    title Memory Test
    kernel /memdisk
    initrd /memtestp.img

    title=BackTrack USB
    root (,0)
    kernel /boot//vmlinuz
    initrd /boot/initrd.gz

title Reboot (Don't forget to remove drive)
    reboot
it works up until right after it creates /etc/fstab. It says
Code:
changing root directory...
linux live end, starting the Linux distribution
Usage: init 0123456SSsQqAaBbCcUu
But the weird part is, on one laptop I tried it on the caps lock light would flash, and on another the power would just shut off after a few seconds.
The init error looks like init was given the wrong option, is there a place to manually change it?

Right now there is only one partition on the drive. I also keep various stuff in other folders in the root of the drive for work.

Thanks
