Installing Apache2, PHP5 etc on FC2? or better to upgrade OS?
Hi all
Before I start I should point out I am quite new to linux, I can get around the filesystem, edit config files and and so on but I'm not too familiar with installing software from the command-line.
My problem:
I have recently signed up fora virtual server with Servelocity. The distro that comes with it is Fedora Core 2 (with some customisations to the kernel).
It also comes with PHP4.3, MYSQL 3.something Apache 1.3 and a few other apps.
I have had trouble finding repositories for apt that allow me in install more modern versions of the software I need. I would like to be running apache 2.0, PHP5 and MYSQL 4.x.
Is it worth persevering with FC2 and trying to find repositories for the software versions I need, or would it be a better plan to look for another virtual server provider that runs a more modern OS?
If so could anybody recommend a good provider? I currently pay £30 a month (Im based in the uk). I would be prepared to pay a little more but obviously would like to keep my costs as low as possible.
Thanks in advance for any advice
Graham
