INSTALLED!!!!! But one more problem

Hello,
I was able to get Mandrake 9.1 installed. Thanks for the help guys. It ended up being a problem with my IDE configuration, go figure. I have an Abit VP6. It's an Abit motherboard, I shouldnt have asked any questions in the first place. heh
Well, anyway. I have a Game Theater XP. Its an awesome sound card. I hear people saying that they can get it to work in Mandrake. Well, the reason I didnt install Mandrake 9.0 was b/c I couldnt get any sound out of it and recompiling the Kernal with ALSA drivers was a pain. Well, I'm at that same point. Mandrake 9.1 recognizes that I have a Crystal Audio sound chip but I get no sound. Yes, my volume is turned up all the way. Anyone know whats going on?
Thanks for tryin with my last thread by the way.
Sincerely,
Lord Rashid

mhhh....does the distro detect ur soundcard....maybe Soundcard Detection would be helpful

Well, it doesnt detect the hercules Game Thater XP. But it detects the exact chipset that my card uses. Everything works fine except no sound. Not even an error to help me with finding out whats wrong. Anyone else run into this problem?

See, I went to the Hercules GTXP forum but the solutions they gave I didnt follow that well. They wanted you to recompile the kernel with newer ALSA drivers or try OSF drivers and recompile your kernel. See, i could do that. But then someone said that they had no problems with their GTXP in Mandrake 9.0 excet they couldnt get 4 speaker playback but only 2. I already posted there but that thread they ran was a ways back. Now that 9.1 is out I'd like to figure out how to get sound.
Everything worked fine in Redhat for some reason but just not in Mandrake.
If anyone can help or if anyone has a Hercules Game Theater XP and runs Mandrake 9.0 or 9.1 then please give a linux brotha some advice on how to enable sound. I've run through the configs, sound server configs, xmms configs, etc. But nothing seems to enable it. Are they any console commands that would work or provide further configuration details? Anything?
Sincerely,
Lord Rashid

You stated that the volume is all the way up but did you uncheck the "mute" box in your mixer. Check both kmix and aumix (type these in at the run command prompt or console/term). That was a problem that I have had in the past.

INteresting. I didnt even unmute anything but when after I tried to configure the server it worked. I have no idea how it worked but it did. I remember changing some values, got an error message, changed them back to zero and now I have sound. Thanks for your help guys. This has turned into an interesting experaince. When I ran kmix in the console It came up with no mixer available. I tried running aumix but I got no response from the kernel.
Thanks for your help though.
Sincerely,
Lord Rashid
