Installed a Server Application....I need some help with variables.

I installed a server application that was bundled with Tomcat and Java... I set the environment variables for Tomcat and Java and all seems to be working there. When I kickoff a run script that starts Tomcat (custom for the app), it does a check to make sure certain variables are set. Running the script returns:
"APPLICATION_SYSTEM_USER must be set for proper execution"
I opened the script in vi and saw that it was just checking to make sure the APPLICATION_SYSTEM_USER is set....roughly:
"if [-z "$APPLICATION_SYSTEM_USER" ]
then
echo "error msg"
fi"

The application has no documentation of this, but I know what user it should run as. How should I set this variable and what's the syntax. I've only set paths as EVs. Thanks,

-Scar

I think I got it...I just threw the App=username in one of my existing /etc/profile.d scripts. I just hope I used the right user.
