Installation problems with Mandrake 8.1
I've had Mandrake 8.0 and now I have problems installing 8.1 I've tried upgrading from 8.0 and I've tried a fresh install on a
formatted drive. When I go thru the installing right after preparing the bootloader I get a black screen with these statements /tmp/imo.o: init_module: no such device /tmp/ppa.o: init_module: no such device then the system freezes I'm new to Linux and have no clue what these mean. So far I cannot use Mandrake 8.1, I've had no problems with 8.0 installation. |
Man 8.1 install
I had the same problem on one of my boxes on a clean install. My other box installs flawlessly. On the first install it was fine, but I had display problems in KDE, so I uninstalled and upgraded my card to a ATI Rage Xpert 128, which was on the compatibility list and got to the part about setting up the X server and that's when I encountered the same message. The only thing I can assume is the driver isn't installed for that card or something needs to be configured by hand. Everything else installs OK.

/tmp/imo.o: init_module: no such device
/tmp/ppa.o: init_module: no such device Do these refer to graphics? I also did the recommended installation-not the expert mode |
I believe that the "PPA" is the driver for a parallel port ZIP drive. I am assuming that you have a zip drive. Try removing it.
If you do NOT have a zip drive, then I am obviously wayyyy off base. |
there is no parallel port zip drive. I do have an additional parallel port but nothing is connected to it.

I am now pretty sure that imm and ppa has to do with the graphics card and monitor. My monitor was not listed in the expert installantion mode sort of thing. I tried heaps of different settings but na. So I downloaded Mandrake 8.2 and it went straight in.
