I'm having problems with the user/password assign.
I've tried installing Mandrake 7.1 at least 10 times. When I get to the user assign mode, I put my name then a password, but after installation is complete, my 'user' is rejected as wrong. Also the password cursor doesn't move when I type in the password. I then tried NOT assigning a user & password, but I had the same problems. So, I can't run Linux because of this Root user or whatever it is problem. Your thoughts & help please! |
Strange behaviour!
You might try the following: boot the PC and at the LILO-prompt type "linux 1" (maybe "linux single" will also work). The system should come up now to the single-user mode where you have full root-privileges without giving a password (a security-hole if you don't change it). Here you could try to give root a password with the "passwd" command. Just type "passwd" and the shell should ask you for the new root-password. good luck |
