Do you mean on the same disk as Windows--ie dual-boot?

The other way of doing it is by using virtual machine software--eg VMWare

Please clarify the configuration you want, and we'll give more detailed help

you must know that Linux is another system like windows...first of all you must down load a good copy of linux..then burn it to disc and install lunix as you install windows..after compelete install you will have dual boot for windows and linux..
i advice you a very simple system it is easy to install..and you can run the system alive from CD with out burn it..

If you want to try a live CD distro, Freespire would not be my first choice. It would not install on either a SCSI or SATA drive.

Many of the mainstream distros now come in a Live CD version

Yes, but be warned - don't try to install any Linux on Virtual PC. You'd be wasting your time - Virtual PC doesn't support 24-bit color like Linux, meaning that when you try to start X, nothing will be recognizable. VMware is definitely the way to go for installing an embedded Linux.

As for dual-booting, there are plenty of guides, just look around.
