Installation of alsa-driver

"Before installing the alsa-drivers not that in your kernel configuration you should have Sound Card Support (CONFIG_SOUND) enabled but nothing else in the Sound menu (with the possible exception of TV Card Mixer Support."

What does this mean?

Does this mean anywhere I see an "M" replace it with a " ". ( with make menu config ). Any do I need to rebuild the kernel with these options before I configure and make the alsa driver?

Thanks,

Robert Liguori

Using 'make menuconfig' you need to check (in 'Sound--->' section) only '<M> Sound card support' and nothing else (the rest of '< >' needs to be empty).

Do I need to rebuild the kernel?

After doing this, do I need to rebuild the kernel.

I accidentally did a make install in the kernel directory, do i need to fix anything?

Yes, you need rebuild the kernel. 'make menuconfig' is a first stage for it.
