Install Software under Linux

Dear All

I am a new bie, should I install software under LINUX as root user
or as a normal user?

If I install software as root user. I worry only root user could
write and read to/from <INSTALLATION DIR>.

I'm newbie too.
And I'm installing soft as root all the time. And there are no problems with that.
Thats my opinion.

Usually you want to install software as root, and you don't want users to be able to write to the install dir. Unix programs will create a hidden directory in the executing users home directory if they need to store information in files.
