install RH rpm distribution from DOS
Hi!
I've downloaded the rpms from the linux FTP download site and was wondering if they are able to be installed from DOS. Best Regards, Snt |
First of all, you have posted 6 topics about the same thing. I don't think that's polite from your part. You will not be listened better if you post like 10 times. Even a moderator has told you to stop doing it and you keep insisting. Maybe some respect would make the community stay in peace.
And no, you cannot install rpm's from DOS. From a previous post I learned you have something you called a *Linux installation* what is in there? You will also have to download a Linux boot disk if you want to install any bootloader. |

This is an other post and I only linked to this post from other interest-subcategories to reach more people. I think more people could find this board with the same question so I posted it here aldough I already aspected it wouldn't be possible since rpm's are linux executables. I would be verry interested in links to linux bootdisks since the only bootdisks I found were for Mini-Linux, but nothing in it to install it from DOS... If you have links please provide them here or in my other post. Best Regards, Snt |

Celeb-x,
What distro do you want? What are you trying to do? If you want to install Linux, go to RedHat and READ THE DOCS! Or SlackWare or Debian or Gentoo or FreeBSD but no matter which distro you choose, RTFM! There are docs on how to make a boot disk that will allow you to complete the install via FTP, CDROM, etc. You can also download ISO images and make bootable CDs to install from. Go to LinuxISO.org for all of the ISOs you could possibly want... |
I have linux installed but no bootloader to get in
Hi!
Thanks again for your reply, I dowloaded the rpms and the imagefiles but lost the imagefiles so I was wondering if the RPMS are useable aswell (from DOS) ;) Let me know if u know a solution. Best Regards, Snt |
Celeb-x, no, you CAN'T use RPMs from DOS. Just hop on to Amazon or someplace and buy yourself some CDs and a good book or two. :p
