Install Problem
 

This is my first time installing Linux on a machine. I am installing Red Hat 9. The machine is an old Gateway AMD K6 366mhz; and I believe 128mb. I have downloaded all the files necessary for installation (Shrike-i386-disc1, Shrike-i386-disc2, and Shrike-i386-disc3).

The previous operating system on the machine was Win98, which i reformatted. I insert the first disc into the machine, switch the BIOS to boot from the CD ROM. The Red Hat 9 page comes up, starts the boot process. The installation seems to be going fine, it asks me for language, keyboard, and what device I will be installing from. I tell it that I will install from the CD ROM. After that, this error occurs "The Red Hat Linux CD was not Found in any of your CDROM drives. Please insert the Red Hat Linux CD and press ok to retry.

I continue by trying to eject and reinsert the CD. But the CD ROM drive will not open. I have forced it to open and reshut the drive, the same error message occurs.

I have made a boot disk, and I get the same result.

Help ME

are you able to manually select where your cdrom is as in /dev/hdc??
What do you mean you forced it? as in physically forced it??

Not forced, but I was getting no response from the CD ROM. I inserted a paper clip into the manual eject hole.

Yes I am able to choose what i want to install from...

Have you tried selecting the device then? I know that with my slackware 8.1 cd it would read from my dvd rom if there was a cd in there even tho my cdrom is master, then tell me it couldnt find the slackware cd.

After i select the device, it give me the error message from above

What i meant was specifying exactly which device to find the cdrom, Oh well prolly better off if someone who uses redhat answers.
