Install Openoffice3.1 in CentOS 5.4

i tried to install openoffice 3.1 version. My linux CentOS 5.4 comes with openoffice 2.3 aleady.

PHP Code:
Installation Steps

   1. Review the System Requirements
   2. Unpack the downloaded image into a directory
. For examplecurrentlythe following command would unpack into the current directory:

3. tar xvzf OOo_3.0.0_LinuxIntel_install_xxxxxx.tar.gz
This will create a source directory with the OpenOffice
.org installationThe directory will have a rather long name but be prefixed by "OOO3...".

4. su to root, if necessary, and navigate to OpenOffice.org installation directorythe OOO3... source directory.

Since the default packaging of OpenOffice.org for Linux is RPMyou will likely need to be root to run the rpm command.

5. cd into the RPMS subdirectory of the source directory.

You should see a lot of rpms here and one sub-directory called "desktop-integration".

6. Install this new version by typing rpm -Uvih *rpm.

By default, this will install OpenOffice in your /opt directory.

NOTESee additional installation options and other useful information in the Setup Guide.

7. Finallycd to desktop-integrationDepending on your package manager/systeminstall the appropriate desktop interface.
When i executed rpm -Uivh openoffice.org3.1-redhat-menus-3.1-9420.noarch.rpm
it prompted me:

PHP Code:
Preparing...                ########################################### [100%]

file /usr/share/icons/hicolor/16x16/mimetypes/gnome-mime-application-vnd.oasis.opendocument.database.png from install of openoffice.org3.1-redhat-menus-3.1-9420.noarch conflicts with file from package openoffice.org-core-2.3.0-6.11.el5_4.1.x86_64
        file
/usr/share/icons/hicolor/16x16/mimetypes/gnome-mime-application-vnd.oasis.opendocument.formula.png from install of openoffice.org3.1-redhat-menus-3.1-9420.noarch conflicts with file from package openoffice.org-core-2.3.0-6.11.el5_4.1.x86_64
Beside this, how could I invoke the program?
#ooimpress [still open the old version 2.3]

pls help

The two packages conflict. Either remove the old openoffice.org or don't install the menus package for the new one.

Not sure if I'm answering your question... since you didn't ask one.

Try uninstalling the current version of OpenOffice and then trying to install 3.1, it should get rid of conflicts from pre-existing files I assume.

If I am remembering correctly, and the package name is openoffice:

The command to remove is:

Code:
yum -r openoffice
