Install KDE3 and / goes into the red
I have just downloaded and installed KDE3,but now my / partition is 98%
full. After checking what packages are installed,I noticed that the previous packages(KDE 2.2.2) are still installed. I was under the assumption that if you upgraded to a later version of a package/packages the previous version would be uninstalled,is this assumption valid.I tried to uninstall some of the older packages, but this gave me a dependency error and would not let me uninstall. What would be the effect on KDE3,if I forced the uninstalling of the older packages with the --nodeps option. I could probably resize my partitions with Partition Magic,is there a way to do this within Linux(Mandrake 8.2). Cheers Lachlan |
Whew, ok, let me try this methodically:
No, this assumption is not valid, at least not in the case of KDE2 and KDE3. KDE3 seems to go into the /opt directory, making it completely separate from KDE2. I doubt it would matter if you uninstalled them, as long as you do have the newer packages installed. I didn't uninstall them though, so I am simply guessing that it would not "hurt". Yes you can resize, use a program called Parted. Good luck, and if those answers don't help, please let us know. Cool |
You can uninstall all *-devel* KDE packages (should be no dependencies). What more? All kde* should uninstall easily when you leave qt, kdelibs and kdebase. Packahes like kdemultimedia, kdegames etc should be uninstalled without dependencies.
