install clonezilla with yum?

I'm running centos 6.4 desktop and I've read that one can install clonezilla with yum. I already know about the live cd and I've used that a lot but can't find any info about installing it with yum. I just get 'not available'. Which repo do I need? I tried the clonezilla pages but there's nothing there and trying to post on the cz forum is like trying to break into fort knox. I also tried installing the source code but there are no instructions as to how to do that either. Thanks for any help.

clonezilla is a Linux distribution. It doesn't make sense to install it through yum... What would you expect the end result to be??

tonj 06-12-2013 10:30 AM

I'd expect to run it in centos or fedora and use it to image a usb drive or something similar

acid_kewpie 06-12-2013 11:20 AM

no, clonezilla is NOT a program, it IS the OS.

tonj 06-12-2013 11:44 AM

I'm not sure that is the case. It is a program that runs on a live linux dizzie, the live linux dizzie is the OS not the clonezilla program. If it can run on a live dizzie, it can run on a normal linux dizzie. I've read elsewhere that it can be installed with yum but it didn't explain how.

acid_kewpie 06-12-2013 01:35 PM

dizzie??

tonj 06-12-2013 01:58 PM

dizzie = distribution

Not in any world I've lived in it doesn't.

OK, so I can see no clonezilla rpms anywhere, but there are ways to just install the individual packages on an existing OS, yes. TBH I would just forget about yum and follow an existing guide, e.g. http://www.linuxjournal.com/article/10884

that page looks really difficult and the end result of the steps at that page is to create a live iso which I don't need. Installing with yum would be infinitely easier - if I could just find out how its done.

edit: I did get the tarball from here:
http://clonezilla.org/downloads/src/sourcecodes.php
but I don't know how to install it and there's no readme or install file with it.

you only install rpm's with yum. there are no rpm's available. You can create them, but that's clearly much more work than just installing the source. Sounds like you're concerned about the wrong part of the process tbh.

tonj 06-12-2013 04:31 PM

well clonezilla can be installed with yum but I don't know how to go about it, and neither do you and there's no further info on google about it. And the clonezilla tarball doesn't provide any instructions on how you install it, and the clonezilla website gives no info about how you install it. Thanks for your input anyway.

acid_kewpie 06-12-2013 04:38 PM

I already said... you would need an RPM. And there are none that google shows me. There is no secret conspiracy or black magic to it. You can make an RPM from the source by all accounts, but that's probably more hassle than just installing it by the instructions that already exist. Stop fixating on yum.

clonezilla is a bootable live disk
it is NOT just one rpm program you install

now "parted" or "Gparted" rpm's can be installed
BUT they work WAY BETTER as a live dvd

anyway how the heck would you clone the / partition of the operating system IF it is still mounted and being used ???????

-- you do not

you use a live media like a dvd or usb thumb drive and boot from the removable media and THEN clone the system

it's not the native OS I want to clone. I know I can't clone that from within itself, I would have to use a live cd. But I would like to start up a linux pc, plug a usb drive in, run clonezilla in a window and backup and restore the usb drive. If that's not possible then ok but I have read somewhere of installing cz with yum.
