install cinelerra on ubuntu 6.10

Hi,
I'm using ubuntu 6.10 and I would like to do some dv editing. I've been away from Linux for the last couple of years so I'm not sure what the best app for that is but from my own research I decided to try cinelerra. My problem is that I can't get it installed. I tried adding apt sources in but that didn't seem to work out, so I just downloaded the source. when I try and build it gcc says it can't compile. any suggestions or possible alternatives for cinelerra?
thanks.

Ok, just tried to compile again and now it says this:

./configure
[: 24: ==: unexpected operator
[: 31: ==: unexpected operator
./configure: 47: Syntax error: Bad fd number

any ideas?

Have you tried the prepackaged versions? doc

FYI, I have tried:
  • kino
  • cinelerra
  • avid
  • imovie
  • final cut
for video editing. The only usable one of the bunch was final cut (higher end version).
