Input/output error

I decided to reinstall linux a couple of days ago and copied all my important files to the folder aaa on a special partition (/dev/hda4) it worked to read/write to that partition until i installed linux (suse 9.3 pro) on another partition during resize of of hda4 an error ocurred no specific details only a small pop-up saying that something went wrong during resizeing of hda4, now when trying to acces aaa it dosn't work but returns input/output error from console and it does not show up at all in kde but the partition apperes to have changed size.
I don't know what im supposed to do i've tried evrything i could think of (in other words not much ;) ) So what should i do to fix this or alternativly what info do you guys need to fix this?

Before you do anything else make a backup copy of hda4 using dd from the shell. Just copy entire device to some safe place.

i cant copy it to someplace else because i'm out of space on my hard-drive and i have no other hard-drives >(

Update i have some really iportant files in that directory that needs to be saved, i have runned fsck and it reported lots of error as expected but it also gave some really important info it said something about three files found in the directory that i cant access and that those three were deleted and if i wanted to clear the space. This proves that it some how is possibale to acces the folder since the program could find specificc folder and filenames within it so if anyone could help me i would be ethernally greatfull.
