Information store: What software could I use to store and access various info
I'm after some kind of software to store information.
This information could be just a single line of code to do something specific, it could be a manual in the form of a pdf or OpenOffice doc, a screenshot, or some links to HOWTO's on the internet. I want the software to be indexed so I can search for freetext, although I realise that I probably won't be able to search in the uploaded/attached documents. There should be some hierarchical structure so that the information could easily be navigated and linked. It would be preferred if this was a client/server architecture so that I could reach and update the information store when I'm away from the machine hosting this. Should I just install mediawiki/Apache/MySQL and so on or is there some other software/solution that could do the same or better job? Not asking for much, am I? ;) Thanks in advance, Mike |
Mindmapping might be another alternative, although i don't know if you can store documents in the way you would a CMS..
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...pping_software Although Freemind can 'plug in' to various wiki and CMS packages (including media-wiki), giving you the benefits of both.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FreeMind something to think about at least. |
I was thinking of some kind of mindmapping software but I was a bit uncertain when it came to documents etc. I was also uncertain whether or not you could have them in a client/server environment. The idea would be to have my server reachable from wherever I get an Internet connection and then get hold of my little codesnips etc.
Thanks for the links though, I'll have a look at those programs. Freemind looks like quite an interesting solution, that way I maybe could combine the best of both worlds. // Mike |
