Info For Laymans Terms

:newbie:
Hi,
Im kinda new to linux
couple of days ago i got the 2 images
they came as ISO files

WINRAR was able to unarchive them, so i dumped them to my desktop.
after this i started up my cd burning software, put the contents of the ISO's in the proper directory and successfuly put them on 2 cd's

what happens now. I have consulted ther N00bs linux guide and found no help with that. Maybe someone here could help me understand this whole thing in english

thanks:

boot with them from there and install linux..

if they burned properly that is.. you boot with the first disk, start the install from there..

k so its basically putting the cd in, shutting down, and it should boot?

That depends. If you have another operating system on your hard drive currently, you'll have to go into your BIOS and set your boot deivce order so that the computer looks at the CD-ROM drive before it looks at the hard drive.

yes, i tried that, it didnt work

i set my first boot device as the cd-rom
second as floppy
and third as cd

the cs spins up and then dies,

it says like this

"Boot Record from CD-ROM : NOT FOUND"

so i went to my n00b manual, read about using a boot disk
did that, put boot.cab on the floppy

it sees the boot.cab because it says Boot Record from Floppy: OK

but then my machine freezes up.

do i have to make a partition on my hard-drive or did the fresh burned cd, just like mommy used to make them didnt exactly work?

Sounds like the cd's wern't burnt properly.

Yaeh, it sounds like the CD is horked. Coasters are cheap, try another burn.
:D

You are burning the iso's as disk images and not just plunking them on the CDs as files, right?
You probably know the difference, but since you only said "put them on 2 cd's", I had to ask.

As far a partition goes, you only need to have enough free space on the drive; the installer will take you through the partitioning process.
