i am running redhat7 which uses xinetd. I having problems with getting swat to run for samba and someone suggested i install inetd. How do you install it?

No need for inetd, just remain using xinetd.
Here is what you need to do though:
edit the file
there will be two things to change, first a line that states

Disabled yes


Disabled no

then you can access swat from the local machine, using, or you can remove the line in the swat file that contains that ip, then access from anywhere. _MAKE_ sure to insert the line again, or disable swat, when you are done or leave a security hole!

One question about the removel and inserting the line containing the ip adres.

Do you need to restart xinetd and if yes how

I thought something with -HUP or so.

To restart xinetd do this.

/etc/rc.d/init.d/xinetd restart
