Improving font readability in Firefox and Opera in KDE

I'm currently using Mandriva 2007.0 and the fonts look terrible in Firefox, Opera and Konqueror. I've installed MS true type fonts but the fonts are still too blurry and small while surfing--I always have to use ctrl+ to make them bigger and a little more readable--I've enabled anti-aliasing but don't notice a real improvement. I've noticed this problem in every distro that uses the KDE--for some reason, fonts look a little clearer and sharper in Gnome, IMHO.

Is there anyway to make the browsing experience more comfortable in KDE??? I've heard that installing webcore fonts and changing the dpi setting might help--if so, what is the optimal setting? I really want to use Linux full-time but don't want to go blind in the process!

Thx for any suggestions or ideas that you might have!
