Importing Thunderbird(Windows) to Thunderbird(Linux)

Been using Thunderbird for years on XP and I want to import the mail, addy book etc into the Linux version. I have made a backup of the local folders (windows), but I can't find the corrosponding ones on Linux. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

The folders you're looking for should be somewhere in ~/.thunderbird. I'm not sure if it's advisable to use profiles across operating systems, I think I read somewhere in Mozillazine's Knowledge Base that that isn't a good idea, but I could be wrong.

Thanks Nylex. The problem is, I can't find the ./thunderbird folder!!

Run "ls -a" in your home directory. Which directories show up?

is ~/.mozilla-thunderbird there?

yes its /.mozilla-thunderbird, you may have to view hidden folders.

Got there just before reading your post. Yep, forgot to list hidden folders. Found Thunderbird, copied over my windows mail and all is fine. TNX for the help.

Do you know what problems it caused? I have the same profile in linux and windows (it is on a FAT partition that I mount in windows and linux) and have not had problems.

May as well continue the thread. I can't find how to increase the font size in Thunderbird. I can increase the font size of the messages by ctrl-+ but not the overall font size for the rest of Thunderbird. Any clues?

jdwilder, I have no problems with the messages etc I have copied over from Windows. Works just like the Windows version.

I went and checked, as I couldn't remember. It's only a minor thing:

The messages and address books are stored using the same format on all platforms. If you move your profile between dissimilar operating systems (Windows to OSX for example) the pathnames in the prefs.js file (your settings) may have the wrong syntax. If this happens you can update them by using the browse button for the local directory in Tools -> Account Settings -> Server Settings and Tools -> Account Settings -> Local Folders to specify the correct account and mail directories.
NomadABC, personally I haven't got a clue about this. If you don't get a reply here, ask on the Mozilla forums :).
