importing a bookmarks file into a bookmarks subfolder

In the Firefox bookmarks manager, I imported an old bookmarks file; and I thought since I had a particular subfolder open, the new bookmarks would import into it; they imported into the main folder instead. Is there any way to make sure bookmarks get imported into my selected subfolder, in the future? (If they were supposed to, I must have done something wrong; never mind.)
