I believe Imagemagick could be the right program for the job, but I need a bit help on how to operate it.
I have a lot of jpg files that I want to optimize - reduce filesize, but not the aspect ratio.
Anyone know how to do this the best way and best quality?

I'm not sure if you want to resize the images or change the compression level. The more compression you apply the less quality the image will have, so you need to find the balance that you want.
Look at the -quality option for the convert command.
