Im a BIG newb

When i installed i made a boot disk. Everything works fine, but i remember chosing KDE and GNOME when i installed. So far i think im running GNOME, but ive heard of this Xwindows thing, no clue how to run that. How do i switch from GNOME to KDE or to Xwindows or even install Xwindows? When i installed i used Desktop or something like that. The first one. Above server

If anyone could point me in the right direction to just start using Linux to its full capacity, a walkthrough, a chat room, please do. Thanks
