Id Software

First off my hats off to the fine people at id software for porting a linux client for Doom 3 and the newer Quake 4. Now the installation was not flawless I did have problems in Suse 10 alsa sounded like bad techno and oss just plain didn't work. I found out that I had to give my normal user permissions to use audio.I went into user management ticked audio and had oss sound in Suse 10.
Then when I tried changing the video quality the games screen only took up 1/4 of the screen or had a 1 inch bar across the top of the screen. When I checked out my xorg it said I was using a vesa monitor driver. I actually have a KDS LCD but the proview driver worked great for me.
Both games load pretty fast and on average throughout game play I average about 80-90fps.I had a new sound card(Audigy 2) I did install which was better then the one on my motherboard(AC97)
This use to be a weak point for linux up till now I really didn't get into the games that much. The best game for linux was tuxracer.Which is alright if your 6.I refuse to go back to windows. And have given up on wine. I did get steam installed but half life 2 was just plain ugly under wine.Maybe the people at valve software could learn a lesson from id software. Thanks again id.

Yes we all love ID here in linux land
Code:
And have given up on wine.
If you ever decide not to be a cheap prick though, Cedega is definitely worth the money if you want to play HL2 and the other Source games. I use it and it works flawlessly and since 5.1, I get the same frames I get under Windows!
