ICQ Client for Linux

I tried a ICQ client by the name of "licq", it required packages that I had never heard of and I could not find them using google or rpmfind.net i want something good, this Licq looked goood but cannot get it working, it required the following, tell me if you have heard of or know where I can get these packages:

libDCOP-gcc2.96.so.4
libkdecore-gcc2.96.so.4
libkdefx-gcc2.96.so.4
libkdesu-gcc2.96.so.4
libkdeui-gcc2.96.so.4
libkio-gcc2.96.so.4

Please help, Thanks!

those are not packages. those are files provided by packages. u can find out what these packages are by running this:

rpm --redhatprovides libDCOP-gcc2.96.so.4

then look for the package name generated by the command. u might run into a db error using this command - u need to install the rpmdb package to use the redhatprovides option.

for sure, RHL 7.3 has the packages u need as it is shipped with the licq program. u can do an upgrade install and manually select licq from the list of packages to be installed. this way, the deps will be handles automatically.

or, use gaim instead - gaim is an all purpose messenger (supports msn, yahoo, icq, aim etc.). just load the appropriate module and you can then do an ICQ chat.

hth.

i would sugest to use SIM

http://sim-icq.sourceforge.net/

i love it... :-)))

acid_kewpie 01-30-2003 05:55 AM

yeah but then everyone else suggests gaim.sf.net as it's by far the bvest all round IM package

ok...
I don't want anyone use sim only because i love it... But i do.... and if someone uses gaim (i didn't even try it... :D ) its also fine! And if its better than sim... for my purposes, sim is sufficient... :)

Adrian

I think everybuddy http://www.everybuddy.com has a better interface than Gaim, but Gaim has OSCAR protocol support (Buddy Icons and other junk like that) where Everybuddy currently uses TOC protocol.

SIM don't want building on the Slackware9.0
I have a problem building SIM on Slackware 9.0
Why is it? >>>>>>:

fno-check-new -MT icqssl.o -MD -MP -MF ".deps/icqssl.Tpo" \
-c -o icqssl.o `test -f 'icqssl.cpp' || echo './'`icqssl.cpp; \
then mv ".deps/icqssl.Tpo" ".deps/icqssl.Po"; \
else rm -f ".deps/icqssl.Tpo"; exit 1; \
fi
icqssl.cpp: In member function `void SSLClient::initSSL()':
icqssl.cpp:154: invalid conversion from `void (*)()' to `void (*)(const SSL*,

When i turn off "ssl" support from the ./configure script - the program builds but crashes on start.
