So I've searched the forums for this issue, but the only problems I can find concern missing protocols and whatnot. My problem is a little different. I have the MSN/ICQ protocol available, but I can't seem to authenticate to ICQ. I log into MSN just fine. So I know the protocol is working correctly, but when I try to log into ICQ I just get "Authentication failed". I know I'm using the correct password because I can type it in on trillian and connect fine.
I checked the FAQ on gaim's website, but the only question it has concerning ICQ is in regards to the server you should authenticate to, login.oscar.aol.com. I verified that that is correct in my ICQ settings. Any other ideas?
I don't use ICQ but I do use AIM which uses the same Authentication Server and Port as ICQ, I had a similar problem and found that it was my screen name that was the problem, once I corrected that I could log on with no problems.
I'm able to log into AIM/MSN/YIM. The only one that gives me a problem is ICQ, and ICQ doesn't use screen names. It uses a number, which i have verified I'm using the correct one already =(
I'm using GAIM 1.2.0. I know there was an issue with trillian logging into ICQ, but I was able to solve that with the trillian update. I'm on the newest version of GAIM, and I have other people in my office that authenticate to ICQ without any problems at all.
I downgraded Gaim to 1.1.4 and connected to ICQ just fine. I read some of the threads about password issues, but they don't apply because I have a 6 character password with no special characters.
This fix was posted on sourceforge today. It fixed my problem. I'm sure there are other people out there that are having issues, so here's the solution!
Hello.I had the same problem, but after I changed some lines
in the source, it all worked again.
I diffed the oscar directory in 1.1.4 and 1.2.0 to check if
i found some differences.
I found out that changing two lines in auth.c made my day:
if (isdigit(sn[0])) in version 1.1.4 is in version 1.2.0
changed to if (0 && isdigit(sn[0])), which will always be
false.
