icon for email in firefox disappears and does not work except for new message
I have firefox 1.0.3 installed and right click to customize the layout to add the mail icon to the toolbar. Okay that worked fine. I then created the link in my pref.js for it to point to thunderbird
user_pref("network.protocol-handler.app.mailto", "/usr/lib/thunderbird-1.0.2/thunderbird");
Now if I click the mail icon and select read mail it does nothing. If I select the new meassge option it opens thunderbird composer. Now if I close firefox then the mail icon is gone and the only way to get it back is to do the customize again and restore icons to the list. Then I can put back to the toolbar. But again does not work to read mail.
This has worked before for me but that was before I did a clean install to a new harddrive. The old drive started to give smartd errors badly. I thought about just transfer disk image to new harddrive but decided to start new. I haven't done a fresh install in over 2 and half years on this notebook. Just upgraded from redhat 8.0 to current fc3 and pieces of this and that along the way.
I still have the old drive and have formated it. I reinserted into the notebook and it still works like the way I am trying to get the new install to do. The read mail option works. I cannot see any difference. I am guessing it must be a permission issue.
Current install
FC3 fully upgraded plus special extra patches.
KDE 3.4+
firefox 1.0.3
thunderbird 1.0.2
Thanks to all for any help.
