ICECAST setup info for debian woody

hi guys!
I have been handed a project to setup live audio streaming.
now i have decided to use icecast and hence i went ahead and grabbed all the packages and dependencies and used apt-get to install it on my computer.
now when i try to run icecast2 as a normal user...it gives me fatal erros of this sort:
FATAL:could not open ERROR logging
FATAL:could not open access logging
FATAL:could not start logging

and when i run it as root i get:
warning:you shoudl not run icecast2 as root
use the changeowner directive in the config file
i went ahead and put in the username of the normal user and the group
however even now it gives the same error messages when i try to start it from normal user mode and it gives the same error when i run it from root.
i also changed the permissions of the icecast2 directory to give read permsissions to all users and i changed the owner to the normal user and did the same with the group.
it still does not show me anything when i go to http://localhost:8000
when i go to the above link in normal user mode...it tells me that the connection was refused....however when i do start icecast2 in root then all my browser says is waiting for localhost:8000
i dont know if i have been able to explain my situation well but if you do understand..plz do try and help me.
thx

ok...i looked around and i figured out that i had to start the icecast start up script in /etc/init.d
i did that and then edited the icecast config file to include the username, group and password.
now i get a different error message when i try to start it from normal user mode as well as root mode:

Could not create listener socket on port 8000
Server startup failed. Exiting

I have added the line :
icecast2 8000/tcp # icecast streaming audio

and then rebooted and i still get the same error message....could someone plz advise.
thx

Yeah I havwe the same problem. Well I used to change the user and stuff plus the root folders in the config but now when I run it I have this

Could not create listener socket on port 8000
I run Suse 8.2 and I had installed 9.0 but I decided 8.2 is better for me
