I would like to open up windows.exe files

Is there any utility out there that enables linux users to go inside .exe files and change them, rebuild them etc?

thanks!

Seriously, if you want to modify *.exe files, your best bet is to have a separate machine with windows on it - the ide's are much better, because they're built for it.
I realise this doesn't answer your question - sorry! But you could try a windows proggie in wine?

That depends on where the binary originated. If the source code is available, grab the source, make your changes, and recompile. If the source code is not available, grab your favorite hex editor.

Hex editor. I guess I need to start at the basics. sometimes I download something and would liek to know what it is going to do before I double click that .exe and change things If I dont like it.

Any suggestions on hex editors for linux/windows?

thanks

Free hex editors under windows are a bit hard to find, but frhed is not too bad. I prefer khexedit under linux though (a kde app).
