I wanted to run a lightweight linux distro with OpenOffice on a old unit

Hi!

I have the ff specs:

P2 400 MHz
32 MB Ram
1 GB HD

I wanted to know if there are such distros dedicated for the above specifications. I tried Vector Standard but I can't install Open Office. I also don't know how to configure the printer. What are my alternatives?

Perhaps you could try xubuntu. But 32MB RAM is too small for any recent desktop distro, I think.

OpenOffice.org needs at least 64 MB of RAM for versions 1.0.x and 1.1.x and 128 MB for 2.0.x.

I think you should forget about Open Office with that amount of RAM. OOo is notoriously memory hungry. I used to run it on 256M of RAM and it was slow with that! Most distros will struggle with just that amount of RAM, even DSL suggests a minimum of 128M.

If all you are looking for is a good linux version of "MS Word" then try Abi Word just google it only requires 16 mgs ram

Yes I know Abi Word. But the issue is on compatibility...It is lightweight yet not all ms word docs are compatible
