I want Konqueror FTP support!

With Mandrake 9.2 and Slack 9.1 (in Konqueror) I never was able to browse any ftp server, which I find very annoying. I'm sure that with Mandrake 9.1, I could. (but I'm starting to doubt that right now :( )
I think this is lack of functionality, I've found any browser exept this Konq being able to do some simple, anonymous FTP. (of which IE was worst)

You want a graphical ftp client?

Try gFtp!

I've gftp. I like gftp. But Konq used to have some basic FTP features, which were quite handy if you were merely leeching sites. It's about Konq, not any other FTP program.

What version are you using? My Redhat 8 machine has Konqueror 3.0.3-13. I have no problem accessing ftp sites. Try this one for example:
ftp://ftp.sunet.se/

I only get some errors with certain servers from my university. Other than that Konqueror 3.1.4 works flawlessly.

Code:

Connect failed

Your request for http://ftp://ftp.sunet.se/ could not be fulfilled, because the connection to ftp (212.142.28.130) could not be established.

This is often a temporary failure, so you might just try again.

Konq version: 3.1.4

Well, I can see the error quite clearly!

Look at the link you submitted. Konqueror has prepended "http://" to the link. That should definitely _not_ be there. I assume that Konqueror then tries to access port 80 instead of 21 of the server.

I can't see any setting in my Konqueror for what to prepend or append to files, so I can't help you any more than this, I'm afraid. Maybe this is a real bug in the browser.

Have a nice weekend.

I already was sure Konq prepended "http://". I just didn't know why it started doing it, but it was quite annoying.
So thanks, I'll look up a bug page for Konq somewhere, and get in touch with the people who make it.
