i use tgz install fluxbox, but can not start it......


1, i use tgz install fluxbox
2, fixed ~/.xinitrc files , added this in lastest : exec fluxbox
3, startx, but can not open the x windows. just can watch the mouse in screen.
4, it's tell me miss or not open some files(group files)


how can i do it ?

What files does it say you are missing? If you installed fluxbox into /usr/local/bin then your ~/.xinitrc file should say:

exec /usr/local/bin/fluxbox

What distro are you using? I presume Slackware as you are on about tgz.
type "whereis fluxbox" and check it is in your path, does it run if you just type it from the console (it won't start up, but does it find it ok?)
Have you got any calls before that in .xinitrc that may be stopping it loading (such as a process like xv that should be backgrounded with &)

i use slackware 9.0

when i use this command :
startx /usr/local/bin/fluxbox

it will get up x windows , but just can see mouse in screen in the center.and can not go on.

i not know how to get the info from screen in console.
what's command can use for this ?

In your xinitrc file, change it to this:

exec /opt/fluxbox/bin/fluxbox

The tgz installs it to that opt directory that I dispise so much...
