I think this is a question about Kernels...

Following the install guide: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01728320.pdf

Where it says:
Code:
10.make menuconfig
11. In the Linux Kernel Configuration window set/select the following options
d. General Setup  Local Version - "-xen" (without the quotes)
e. Processor type and features  Enable Xen compatible kernel - * (implies built-in)
f. Device Drivers  SCSI device support SCSI low-level drivers – Select ‘M’ on all excluded options (M, implies Module)
g. XEN  Privileged Guest (domain 0) - *
h. XEN  - unselect/exclude all "frontend driver"
12.After setting these options keep pressing ESC until

My Menuconfig command does not work, I'm guessing this is because I installed [Fedora 14 64bit] from a CD, and it did not include the linux kernel source file. I also do not have the folder /usr/src/linux. So I'm thinking I need to go download the kernel source from www.kernel.org, BUT I am wondering if there is a way to modify the above ^ or manipulate some file to achieve the same result, because i tried redownloading the kernel and screwed everything up and it wouldn't boot.

Not looking for an answer to this per se but just some input so i can google in the right key words...

thanks

You should start by installing the kernel source package, from your vendor. Then, you need to determine which options were used in compiling the kernel that you have.

When you're using a package-based system, you emphatically do not want to get the true state of the system out-of-sync with what the package manager thinks it is.

The Fedora kernels are built with virtual system support, so you shouldn't need to do anything except install the "Virtual" group and start virt-manager. If you want to use kvm, check your BIOS setting to make sure that it's turned on. (Many vendors ship the BIOS with kvm turned off by default.)

thanks for the help guys, but I was wrong,

apparently you have to be in the /usr/src/kernel/(kernelversion) folder and make menuconfig works now. of course i may have downloaded some other tools in between that i forgot about. i'll post back if/when i know for sure.
