i/o can be problem with sound

Hi

Just a question concerning sound output.

I have sound playing cd and that's all.

Can it be any trouble with system don't finding sound output ??

Alsa is ok ( i can hear a cd without any trouble and sound is fine ).

All mixers are 100 % so i don't believe there is any problem is this area.

I cannot hear any sound even as root, so i think there is no chmod trouble.

arts is off ( i had troubles with it and don't get any sound when on anyway)

The problem is where to advise linux i'm using Alsa ?? ( when arts is out i cannot select any other output )... when is on and i select Alsa i get in troubles ( but don't get any sound ).

I cannot hear any wav sound ( even linux ones ) and games are silent too.

Any idea ??

Having a CD play doesn't necessarily mean your sound drivers are working - AFAIK, most CD-ROM drives have a cable that connects them directly to the sound card in order to play cd audio without the need for software intervention.

So unfortunately, it probably is a problem with ALSA and/or arts.

I'm in the same boat - having trouble getting sound up and running.

Do you get any error messages at any point? If not, it must be either a muted or 0 volumed channel... or else everything's REALLY messed.

Post any errors you get, as well as the output of lsmod.
trying alsaconf couldn't hurt, either.
