I need to add a directory to the search path
I'm installing a piece of software whice I trust, but the installation instructions are cryptic to say the least (I think the assumption is you know how to turn a computer on). I do have it installed (it took a while) but now I have to add a directory to the search path. I can't find this instruction on either of the two computers I'm running, one with Fedora Core 3, the other with SuSE 9.2.
I think it must mean the execution path
If that works you can permanatley add it to your path by editing either .bashrc or .bash_profile or make it system wide by altering /etc/bash.bashrc or similar.
