I know its not good but...

Unfortunately for some software I need to run windows.
I am currently running WinXP and need (i think) to update to SP1 in order to get my wireless network card running

All of my essential data (a few gig) is on linux, which runs on a logical partition of my hard drive (its a laptop)

My question is: Will installing SP1 onto my machine affect my grub bootloader?

alternatively, Is there a win4lin type of program about that will allow me to run winxp on linux?

cheers,

smerk

Don't we all

I'm just happy that it isn't too often...

Most likely.

Be sure to have a rescue disk (or better yet, the CD) handy before you proceed. If you do end up whacking your bootloader, then boot up off of the rescue disk and run:

/sbin/grub-install /dev/hda

as root.

Details can be found here:

Probably not until VMware or Win4Lin gets it working...

LOL! Good point

I do a bunch of PLC stuff for work (Programmable Logic Controllers), and no amount of pleading, whining, crying, or wheezin' is going to get Rockwell or GE to come up with a linux version of their software (or a non-NT version for that matter).

As for my home PC, I play the occasional game of Stronghold and IL-2

Just did that install last night. It does nothing to LILO or GRUB that I saw. Smooth Sailing (wow.)
