I just want to install programs! Currently, cinelerra
I'm trying to get cinelerra installed. I have multiple dependancy problems and even conflicts. The worst of which is glibc, glibc-common, glibc-core. Is there a simple place to go to that has all of them as rpm packages that will play nicely together?

Now if only you told people what distro you were using ...

Suse 10.1. But how much does that really matter? I usually install any RPM I can find.
|
That's probably your problem. You need to find an RPM created for your distro, otherwise the library versions will probably not match up. Each distro and revision uses different versions of many libraries and a package built against one set won't necessarily work with another.
You can always compile from source if you absolutely can't find an RPM for your particular distro (try rpmfind.net -- I've had good luck with it). |
Actually, maybe my problem was trying to install a program that required me to install way too many packages. It required glibc-2.4. I found that updating glibc requires downloading basesystem packages and more.
Do you think I should try downloading a glibc package made for Suse? |
It won't install if it doesn't match the other required packages.
If you FORCE an install you can completely break your system. Generically speaking: no, you can't just install ANY rpm you find, as btmiller pointed out. Cheers, Tink |
I almost have cinelerra (an older version) running. I cannot find libavcodec ANYWHERE. I'm getting extremely frustrated; been looking for about 3 hours now. Please help.

Found it, finally. It was in libffmpeg; not ffmpeg, libffmpeg.
