I have installed Enlightenment
 
How do I run it, it seems in my gdm the only options I have are kde and gnome, or am I all wrong, kde and gnome are desktops, Enlightenment is a window manager, how do I select a window manager? will it work in either kde or gnome?

when I run the desktop switching tool, E is there, but when I click on it, it says I have to restartx, when I logout and come back on, it is not listed in the gdm

Try looking through www.enlightenment.org. I couldn't find any newbie FAQ's there though...

Search LinuxQuestions (search button above) because I know there is a lot of information on getting gdm to load blackbox. It's basically the same process, except the window manager names are different.
