I cant figure out how to save my stuff in Damn Small Linux

I run DSL from a USB drive on top of Windows XP, and I am having problems with backing stuff up. I want it to save all the files I have changed or downloaded. What would I do to fix this? Also I cant get into the regular /opt/ folder. I did before and I put /home/dsl in one of the files, I forget which. I think it was the backup file, not the .filetool.lst or the .xfiletool.lst But now when I rebooted DSL it wont let me get into /opt/.. Instead of puting me in the /opt/ folder it moves me into the /ramdisk/opt folder.

Anther problem is that when I run DSL and then take out my USB drive, it wont load any programs.

Are you actually booting from the USB stick or are you running this from within winXP? If you're actually booting from the stick, you should be able to mount your USB partition (if it's not already mounted) and save your stuff there. If your running from within winXP, I am not sure. Take a look at this thread

I am not sure what you are saying here.
