httpd: unrecognized service ?????
 

Hi.....

I uninstalled my httpd came with RH9 using rpm -e and , installed Apache httpd 1.3.22.


# tar zxvf apache_1.3.28.tar.gz
# cd apache_1.3.28
# ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/apache \
--enable-module=so
# make
# make install
# /usr/local/apache/bin/apachectl start


now it is running as per the last line
# /usr/local/apache/bin/apachectl start

but at /sbin/service httpd start replies

httpd: unrecognized service


Any thing to say . ....:confused:
