i was wondering if they have a html editor comparable to Dream Weaver for win32? I found a bunch of html editor but didn't find one that was as good or even comparable to Dream Weaver.

if you're useing KDE I think there's one called Quantim or something like that. I've never used it before so:scratch:

for kde its "quanta" i belive

these tools dont have a drag and drop interface though (creating buttons etc) like dreamweaver or frontpage. im not sure of any tools in linux that do this.

the mozilla web editor offers basic functionality, together with bluefish it does the job

SCREEM is a web development environment. It's purpose is to increase productivity when constructing a site, by providing quick access to commonly used features. While it is written for use with the GNOME desktop environment in mind it does not specifically require you to be running it, just have the libraries installed.

Quanta Plus is a web development tool for the K Desktop Environment. Quanta is designed for quick web development and is rapidly becoming a mature editor with a number of great features.

I believe you can run dreamweaver mx via wine also.

I was wondering the very same question.

I have just converted to Linux (mandrake 10.0) and struggling to find a decent editor. I used Dreamweaver 4 on Windows but not sure if you can run this through Wine.

The Mandrake distro came with Screem, Mozilla Composer & Quanta Plus. Screem won't even load, Mozilla Composer looks rather poor and couldn't even seem to deal with PHP files when i had a brief play with it. Quanta is the pick of the bunch, but I was not impressed with the WYSIWYG view (or VPL, as it's called on Quanta)- it just didn't look at all like the actual finished product and didn't seem very interactive, whereas Dreamweaver always gave a pretty good idea of what the browser would actually see and you could click and drag and do pretty much what you liked.

I may check out this Bluefish. Are there any other recommended editors out there?

i'm going to try bluefish too,, and perhaps other @ soundforge


let me know about other html editors too, and i let you know about how my search for the best html editors comes along too.

I downloaded Bluefish, but it needs libpcre to function. So I got it from the pcre page and installed it and i still can't get Bluefish to install from the rpm.

It comes up with a message: Some package requested cannot be installed:
bluefish-0.13-1.i686 (due to unsatisfied pcre[>= 3.9]).

But I've got pcre 4.4. All the libs are there in both /usr/lib & /usr/local/lib. I don't know what the problem is.

Edit: upon looking at the Bluefish manual http://bluefish.openoffice.nl/manual...sh-ch-2-sect-1 it seems to say that the pcre is optional anyway :
So I don't know why an optional requirement seems to prevent it installing.

Bluefish is available in the "Install packages" program. are you using this to install it?
if not use it, it will take care of all the deps automagicly

Captain hero what variant of linux are you using that uses rpm files? Did you try installing it from the command line and give the force option to your variants install software? For Mandrake it would be I believe:

# urpmi -fv package-installing.rpm

I would believe it is simular for rpm manager too.

cadj, I couldn't see it in the install programs interface - I may need to revisit my sources. It may be that if there is a mandrake-specific install it will solve any problems.

Jchance, I a, using Mandrake 10.0. I didn't use the -f option - I'll have to look at that too.

As a complete novice, this is all new to me.

OK, I couldn't find Bluefish on my distro, but I got a copy for Mandrake 10.0 from www.rpmseek.com. I worked fine - I didn't even have to use the -force option. The program comes up ok, but I haven't tested it out yet.
