HPT-372 RAID/Mandrake 8.1

Hey all -

Due to the recent death of the mobo in my main work box, it has been upgraded to the "bleeding edge" - an IWill XP333-R, which has the Highpoint 372 IDE-RAID controller. My old board had the HPT-366. Sooooo, of course, I couldn't get Linux to boot off of it. I have since moved all of my Linux filesystems to my SCSI HD, and have disabled the RAID controller by jumper (Mandrake kernel-panics because it sees the new controller - even the new RedHat (7.2) and Mandrake (8.1) *install CDs* barfed on it). So, now it boots up, but I can't use one of my IDE HD's because it's the fifth IDE device in this machine.

So, when anyone comes across a driver for this thing, please let me know. I'd like to use the RAID controller. Other than this little problem, this board rocks!

Hi
www.highpoint-tech.com has some for the 372/374, but I don't think theres a Mandrake version.

Jim - I've looked there. That one's for the stock RedHat 7.1 kernel.

Thanks ... Bob

Mandrake 9.0 betas 1 & 2 will allow the installation program to start, but when you try to create or modify partitions you get "unable to write to partition table" error message...there is no fix for this other than putting your device on the primary or secondary IDE connectors if you insist on sticking with Mandrake. However, Highpoint has a patch for some other distros like Redhat, Caldera, and I think Debian that provides a modified kernel that will allow you to use your device controlled by the hpt372. www.highpoint-tech.com
