when running hp toolbox, following error occurrs:
No installation HP devices found. To install a device use the CUPS web interface or printer installation that came with your operating system. After setting up the device you must press f6 or device |refresh all for the printer to appear in HP device manager.

Cups web interface has following info:
Description:
Location:
Make and Model: HP PSC 2175 Foomatic/hpijs (recommended) - HPLIP 0.9.7
Printer State: idle, accepting jobs, published.
Device URI: usb://HP/PSC%202170%20Series?serial=MY38MF61HX73

Print Test Page Stop Printer Reject Jobs Move All Jobs Cancel All Jobs Unpublish Printer

I'm able to easily print from my computer. The problem si I cannot get the scanner to work at all. Any suggestions??

I've had the same problem with my HP printer. The resolution was to remove the printer from CUPS and reinstall it using the hp:/ URI. It should be someplace in the list of possible devices. With the usb:/ URI, CUPS printed perfectly but the HPLIP toolbox didn't detect the device. With the hp:/ URI, however, HPLIP picked it up with no problem.
