Howto Compress Video With Satisfactory Result


I tried this:
mencoder dvd://1 -chapter 4-4 -o test.avi -oac copy -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4
but the sharpness of the pictures was lost

I tried this:
mencoder dvd://1 -chapter 4-4 -o test_ffv1.avi -oac copy -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=ffv1
but mencoder exited with

I personally use xvid for most things.
Have a play with avidemux
