how yum works .


Hi all

Yum is a great tool , but i want to understand the way its work with , and why when i install a package its took a long time with a lot of downloads .

is the repository a link to a site that contains rpms ?
why when i try to install an rpm its look in a specific repos should i enable or disable them manualy ?

what is filelists.xml.gz ?

"is the repository a link to a site that contains rpms ? " why not look?? just follow the url in the repo file.

"why when i try to install an rpm its look in a specific repos" because it's trying to find the file you asked for it's not psychic and all knowing... if you don't want to use a certain repo, then of course you should disable it.
