how to use 100 dpi fonts in mdk 10?

Hi,

I've glanced at a couple of posts that suggest using 100 dpi fonts to improve clarity. i've copied it from my mdk cd but don't know how to access it, as those posts were pretty brief.

i see a bunch of fonts at these fonts at:

/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/

with names in a weird format like: helvBO08-ISO8859-13.pcf.gz or timR12-ISO8859-9.pcf.gz

I have a dell xga (1024x768) 15" laptop screen. does this qualify for 100 dpi and how do i turn this option on?in xp, i use 96 dpi by default. i have mandrake 10 and am new to linux so provide some detailed instructions/exact commands to type in if possible. thanks in advance.
