How to update Java?

Using Firefox 0.9.3
I have Java 1.4.2_01 and would like to upgrade to 1.4.2_05, at least like in Windows.

In Windows, the java client updated automatically. When I try to update it in Linux by going to www.java.com, it says everything is already installed. How do I check what version of Java I have, and most importantly, how do I update it?

Open xterm, run
java -version

If it says it's already installed you probably already
have the latest available version for Linux installed.

Cheers,
Tink

Is this the most recent?

[ken@localhost bin]$ ./java -version
java version "1.4.2_01"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2_01-b06)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2_01-b06, mixed mode)

If not, how do I update this?

I was able to update my java by going to www.java.com and clicking the MANUAL download. Now I'm using

java version "1.4.2_05"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2_05-b04)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2_05-b04, mixed mode)
